Review:

Disney has been known in the past to not have great sequels made for their previous movies, so when the news came out that Monster Inc 2 would actually be a prequel, I was not very happy about it. How wrong was I! While I was watching it in theaters, I was blown away by the originality and touching story that it offered its audiences.

The creators of Disney were able to bring to life yet again the new world of monsters, but in a light-hearted and kid-friendly way that is able to bring together all people of different ages that fully enjoyed the movie. People from all ages were able to come together and experience a warm-hearted movie.

In Monsters University Scanlon was able to bring together the main characters that we have loved and adored since the first one came out more then a decade ago, as well as new characters that we learned to love by the end of the movie. I loved that they were able to bring up old characters like Randall (Steve Buscemi) that everyone remembers from the first one, but the creators decided to shine him in a different way, rather then automatically evil as he was in the first movie.

The creators were able to make the characters become relatable to the audience with Mike being the character that was too focused maybe, and was not able to have fun, while at the same time, was determined to prove everyone wrong that was telling him that he was not able to be scary enough. Then there is Sully, who was basically the average guy that didn’t have to try for anything and it was just given to him because of his family. Both character’s dynamics were able to give the audience a positive outlook on life and judging people and working hard, while at the same time being funny as well.

  1. Monster's University was a great, family friendly movie! I loved the way that it utilized humor and common themes to make the story not only appeal to children, but adults as well. Like you, I was not expecting Monster's University to be a great success as a prequel to Monster's Inc. And like you, I was surprised at the quality of the story line and production. I also loved how both new and old characters were introduced and we learned the back-stories of so many characters we had seen in Monster's Inc. Overall, a great movie and a must see!
